Pixel sword duels / Vol. 01

CINDER

Steel meets steel.
Only one side leaves a legend.

A top-down pixel sword game for 2 to 10 players. Three hearts, one blade, one dodge. Carry the cinder charge to a site, or stop the side that does.

Press start free download / v16

Mid-round in the Cinder Keep: an Ember Knight slides across a slick pool beside a bog swamp and a cherry tree, with the minimap showing sites A and B.

Three hearts. Every fighter, every round.

60Hz

Server-authoritative. Predicted movement, interpolated rivals.

5

Challengers. Two abilities and a passive each.

2-10

Players. Up to 20 fighters with bots.

01

Plant and Defuse

The Jade Wardens against the Ember Knights, any split from 1v1 to 5v5. One attacker carries the cinder charge to site A or B and holds E for 3 s to plant. Defenders get 5 s to defuse it before the 20 s fuse burns down.

  • Sides swap every round. First to five wins.
  • 120 s round clock. Fall and you're out until the next round.
  • A planted charge keeps the round alive, even if every attacker is down.
02

Free for All

No charge and no teams: up to twenty fighters, bots included. The last fighter standing takes the round. If the 90 s clock runs out, the healthiest fighter wins it.

  • First to three round wins.
  • Fill the lobby with + BOT. Try 1v7, 1v15, or anything up to 20.
  • Everyone gets their own colour, spawn and score.
03

VS Bot

Practise solo against a bot that adapts to you. It sharpens when you win and eases off when it wins, so the match stays close. Its rank runs from Rookie to Legend.

  • It plans routes, plants, defuses and dodges.
  • It uses its character's Q and F abilities.
  • It runs on loopback only, so nothing is opened to the network.

02 / The challengers

Choose your challenger

Five fighters, each with a Q ability, an F ability and a passive. Anyone can pick the same one. Abilities respect teams, and smoke never hides your own side.

Emmett / Wind Duelist

Q

Flashbang

10 s cooldown

Thrown toward your aim. It bursts on a wall, a rampart or a fighter, after 0.7 s in the air, or when you press Q again. Everyone within 3.5 units with a clear line to it is whited out for 2 s, you and your teammates included.

F

Slick Pool

12 s cooldown

A 1.8-unit pool up to 3 units ahead, for 6 s. Anyone in it moves up to twice as fast with little grip, so they slide and turn wide.

P

Seize the Opening

Passive / 5 s cooldown

Narrowly evade a live sword arc to gain 25% speed for 1 s.

Where Emmett's slick water meets Rowan's bog mud, both drain away in a burst of steam. Values are initial tuning, not final balance.

03 / The arsenal

Pick with 1 2 3 in the lobby, the countdown or between rounds. Press V any time to switch between overhand and backhand.

A 140° arc, but you move at 40% speed while swinging. Backhand: a hit launches the target about 2.5 units, and they can't act until they land.

Backhand: each shot looses two arrows, at more than twice the recovery.

Walls stop arrows. A well-timed Space dodge passes straight through them.

04 / The siege layer

Reshape the keep

In Plant and Defuse, both sides fight over materials in mid, then spend them to open or seal the routes into each walled site. Every build costs from a small shared pool, and building in the open shows where you plan to fight.

  1. 1BreakFirst 30 s. Fight for resources, no building.
  2. 2ShapePress B and build.
  3. 3BreachAn attacker gets inside a fortress.
  4. 4ActivateThe charge is planted.
  5. 5ReverseThe round ends and the sides swap.

Materials

Hold Timber, Iron or Stone alone for 4 s to earn 1 material for your side. Smash crates and hunt the two wild boars for more. Each side holds up to 6, and materials reset every round.

Attackers build

  • Ladder1
  • Rope1
  • Battering ram2
  • Siege tower3
  • Temporary bridge1
  • Cover mantlet1
  • Rally flag2

Defenders build

  • Wooden wall1
  • Barricade1
  • Watchtower2
  • Portcullis1
  • Reinforced door2
  • Trap1

Swords cut down enemy timber, doors, barricades, ladders and flags. Arrows don't.

05 / The maps

Two battlegrounds

The Cinder Keep

The original keep with three lanes and two bomb sites. A stream with plank footbridges runs north to south, cherry groves fill the corners, and wading the river slows you by 60%.

  • Illinois Burger: step inside for +50% speed for 7 s.
  • Time Inn: light its three lanterns in order to stretch the fuse to 35 s.

Emberwall

A competitive 4v4 siege district, 80 × 56 units. Attackers start in the Siege Camp to the west and defenders in the citadel to the east. Three lanes run between them, with at least two and a half real ways into every site.

  • A lane: the Gate Yard, the Great Gate and a one-way Rampart Walk drop.
  • Mid: the Outer Bailey and a central courtyard built for melee.
  • B lane: the market front, the mill gap and the main arch.

07 / How to play

Get in the arena

  1. Download the Windows or macOS build. Players on either system can play together on the same version.
  2. Host: choose Host Match, keep port 7777 and click Open Arena. For internet play, forward that UDP port to your PC.
  3. Join: choose Join Server and enter the host's IPv4 address (or a dedicated server's host name) and the same port.
  4. Lobby: pick a side, a character and a weapon, then Ready Your Blade.

Windows: keep Cinder.exe next to its _Data folder.
macOS: the universal app isn't notarized, so the first time, right-click it and choose Open.
Want to play alone? Choose VS Bot. You don't need an address.
